BUS 110 W10 Reflection

This week was focused on Big Dreams. I have such a hard time with this concept because my dreams are just that - fantastical dreams of "what if" that will never come true because I don't work for them. I recognize this is a choice on my part and I am working to change it, but old habits die hard.

Earlier this month, I was talking with a family member and asked how the career of their spouse was going and was shocked to hear - yet again - that this person had decided to start their own business. I was immediately overcome with the urge to tell my family member that their spouse needs to focus more on taking care of their family than chasing *another* dream that isn't fully conceptualized. I chose kindness instead. I told my family member that I hope this works out for them and that they can find something that makes them happy and fills their needs. Then I read the assignments this week and was reminded that a good entrepreneur has big dreams and puts everything on the line when they aim to accomplish those dreams.

My biggest takeaway from the reading is actually to dream Big, but take the time to really plan out a goal and how you can accomplish it. Then take that first step, no matter how hard it is. It's very similar to gaining a testimony of the Gospel. We can't just decide to believe and expect it to work out for us in the end - though sometimes that works, it's not the best way. We have to take the time to really research and ask the Lord for answers to our questions, then act on the promptings we are given with the information we have gathered.

This weekend, I climbed Le'ahi, also known as Diamond Head, with my older 3 kids. The youngest (9) woke up with a headache and upset stomach, so she stayed home with a friend. My oldest boy (pictured below) said, "mom, I think this is a sign that we need to not go on the hike." I didn't tell him he was wrong, because he has heard me talk about the promptings I have gotten recently that blessed us for following them, but we left his sister home and had a fabulous time on the hike. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach my children to follow their dreams with a plan in place to really accomplish those dreams!
