BUS 110 W01 Reflection
This week has been difficult. Starting school again with higher-level classes, losing job opportunities for myself and the boys because someone tested positive for Covid-19, stressing about said lost opportunities, trying to entertain a family of 6 who is usually active outside of the home in isolation, and trying not to overburden me with "what if" situations.
The good news - those "lost" job opportunities are not a permanent thing. We have been working with a fabulous casting company here where we live, and they have said we can audition again after isolation. I am grateful for a flexible way to do school and a part-time job with my kids, and I am grateful that my husband is willing to support us in these adventures.
Class this week was a breath of fresh air in all of this chaos. I was afraid I wouldn't have my books in time to start reading - they showed up early. I was afraid the reading would be "dry" and difficult to get through - I haven't stopped taking notes and highlighting. "In Launching Leaders" by Steven A. Hitz, the introduction shares part of a poem from the 2015 New Zealand National Young Adult Convention. I cried as I read it. The thoughts were almost exactly what I had just been bemoaning to my husband, and yet the last stanza was so uplifting that I will share it with you here:
"You are enough- in fact, you are so much more than enough.
Because true beauty isn't found in the contours of your face
or the shape of your body,
It is found in the root of your identity."
As I was scrolling mindlessly through social media yesterday, someone shared a graphic that seems to go along with the poem. It comes from a website called "The New Happy" and I am thinking that their podcasts and newsletter might be a welcome respite from the pressures of this chaotic world we live in. I am looking forward to having the opportunity to learn who I am as a leader in this class and can't wait to share my thoughts with all of you!
